The Mother of Living Room

Often referred to as the “mother of the home,” Rachel Ototo is an answer to prayer.  She is the Clinical Director of Kimbilio Hospice, entrusted to lead in providing quality palliative care services—ensuring that every detail is in place to carry out the care plan for each patient, including proper staff, equipment, supplies, and medication

Vantage Point Team Update #8

Thus far we have all been out of our element but have never felt away from home.  We have been blessed by our opportunity to serve here as we have had the pleasure of truly serving God’s people. It has also been a great time for each of us to individually do Bible study, introspect, and to grow in our walk. A few things about Kenya that I want to share: 1. It is very green where we are and no lions run rampant here, 2. We are the second take that people look at in passing, and 3. This is truly where God’s heart resides and it can only be experienced.

Vantage Point Team Update #7

Jambo Family & Friends!  It is Saturday morning and it’s hard to believe we’ve been here for 8 days now and will be leaving Kipkaren on Tuesday morning.  The experiences we’ve had so far have been absolutely amazing and the people we’ve met are so warm, caring and loving.  Our team verse really sums up why we answered the call to come to Kenya: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”— John 13:34-35.

Vantage Point Team Update #6

This week has been quite a learning experience.  Having my eyes opened to the reality of some people’s everyday lives makes me appreciate the blessings of my own life.  As we connect with the guests of Kimbilio Hospice and learn their stories, we feel as though they are family.  These people could not be more loving and joyful toward us.  It has been a blessing getting to know them and spend time with them.

Vantage Point Team Update #4

After 40 hours of travel, we arrived safe and sound to The Living Room where we received the warmest welcome imaginable.  There was lots of worshiping and praising our Lord.  They had flowers for each of us and we all planted our own tree on the property.

Vantage Point Team Update #3

Tonight, just two days before we leave, we celebrated the journey thus far with dear friends and family.  The Seifens graciously opened up their home for the Taco Man and Team Kenya.  It was a great time of food, fellowship, fun, sharing, and prayer.

Message of thanks

On a Tuesday morning in the month of March 2013, I met a young man named William at Kimbilio Hospice.  As a believer and supporter of the sacred work of Living Room, I enjoy visiting to see how the vision is continuing to be carried out.  My usual routine is to go through each room and greet all of the patients.  That morning, I somehow ended up getting stuck in the first room I entered where I met William.  Our short greetings turned into a one hour conversation during which my heart was moved—tears welling up in my eyes several times as I listened to his difficult journey over the last few years.

Vantage Point Team Update #1

The last five months or so have been nothing short of amazing as the ten of us have begun preparing for this trip to Kenya.  Without a doubt, God has had His hand in every step- from choosing the team members, to fundraising and team training… we are certain He has called us for this time and are blessed to be part of the journey.
