APU PT Team Day 2
A Day in Kaptebee:
Yesterday we had our first opportunity to work with the physiotherapists at Living Room International (LRI). A few announcements were made in the community over the weekend reminding people that PT services are available through LRI, so many came to both the outpatient clinic and the community outreach yesterday.
Nikki and Anthony spent the day at Kimbilio to work with patients at the outpatient clinic and the hospice.
I had the opportunity to go with the rest of the team on a community outreach in Kaptebee, a neighboring village. LRI goes weekly to provide physical therapy to this community because most people do not have access to transportation to reach the LRI outpatient clinic. We had an incredible day meeting people and hearing their stories. One thing the team all commented on was how many people had conditions which can be significantly changed through some simple interventions. Stephanie and Jacob kicked off the day with a sweet young man who was paralyzed from the waist down after falling from a tree. He was very excited to learn the basics of how to transfer from the floor to a chair. Stephanie loved the simple power of cheering him on and seeing how hard he worked and how excited he was to learn a new skill, even in the midst of a language barrier. We are excited to get to be a part of these outreaches for the next few weeks!
