APU Physical Therapy Team Arrives
Jambo! (hello!)
After 4 different flights and a few hours driving through beautiful urban and rural towns, we have made it to the Living Room in Eldoret, Kenya! We could not be more excited! The people of Kenya have made us feel so welcomed and loved! When we arrived at the Living Room, the hospice we are serving at, we were greeted by the staff singing and dancing! They are such a wonderful group of God loving people who shine Christ’s love! After meeting each of the staff, Jacob and Nikki planted a tree as a way to start off our stay at the Living Room! Every time a team comes to serve at the Living Room, they plant a tree! We were given a tour of the Living Room which consists of a funeral home, outpatient clinic, Kimbilio (meaning a “place to run to”) Hospice, pharmacy, and lots of farm land where they grow their own food! We had an opportunity to meet the patients living in Kimbilio Hospice. A few of them were laying out on mattresses under a tree in the garden, enjoying the fresh air and amazing weather. The hospice is so peaceful! We learned that the Living Room, started by an APU alumni, operates the largest in-patient Hospice in Kenya, able to have up to 26 patients.
We were then taken to Shiloh Guesthouse which is where we will be staying the next 3 weeks. It is such a beautiful home and we are so blessed to have such a safe wonderful place to stay! We spent the rest of the day catching up on lost sleep and spending time with the locals. Learning that the area we are staying at is a safe community, Jacob and Anthony went on a run throughout the village. Kids would come out and run with the guys! After 3 days, we were finally able to have our first full night of sleep!
Today Professor Penny, Stephanie, Juliana, Jacob and I are going to go with the outreach team to a nearby village to do examinations on people to see if they need physical therapy. Nikki and Anthony will stay at the hospice with one of the physical therapists, treating patients in the inpatient and outpatient clinic. Thank you for everyone who is praying for our team! God continues to give us strength and guidance as we do His work in Kenya.
Mungu Awabaraki! (God Bless you)
