Miracles
I was recently asked if I ever witness miracles at Living Room. While the answer is a resounding yes, they are not often instantaneous or obvious acts of power. They occur in day to day moments, and if you are not paying attention, they can easily be overlooked.
Simple acts of love transforming brokenness.
Pain is relieved—even if sometimes it is just for a little while. Relationships within families are mended as forgiveness is shared. Babies who have lost parents and had too little to eat, for too long, find nourishment through food and loving care. Their bodies and spirits begin to thrive. Dignity is restored as wounds are cleaned, hands are held, and love takes on a face with hands and feet. The angst of death becomes a little less scary with the reminders that God is near.
The other day I received an email from a dear friend of mine who is a physician working in a nearby town. He often refers his patients to Living Room for shelter and care. His message included two photographs of a young girl, a former patient of Kimbilio Hospice, that were taken one year apart. The images, laid out side by side, barely resemble one another and beautifully capture such a dramatic transformation of life returning. Just below the pictures, a caption read: “We must never give up.”
I am convinced that where there is love, there are miracles—we must never give up.
