APU School of Nursing Team
(Azusa Pacific University’s School of Nursing team arrived to Living Room International’s site in Kenya this past Tuesday. Led by Professor Janice Haley, four students have come to learn about and experience firsthand what healthcare is like in Kenya. Over the next 2 1/2 weeks, the team will be sharing on this blog about their experience.)
We made it!
Our adventure getting here was amazing. We took a canal cruise during our afternoon in Amsterdam that brought us to some of the major sightseeing spots. Then, after an 8 hour plane ride to Nairobi, we landed in Mayfield Mission House for some MUCH NEEDED sleep, horizontally in a real bed. We left the following morning at 4:30AM to catch one more plane to Eldoret and then a 1.5 hour ambulance ride to our final destination, Kimbilio Hospice at Living Room International.

Here we are in Eldoret
What joy.
We received the most wonderful welcome with singing, hugs, and bouquets of flowers. We felt so loved. The next day, Wednesday, we got our first experience working in this community. Dinah and Brooke spent the day at Chebaiywa Health Center and Tiffany, Lianna, and Mama Chiri spent the day with the guests (patients) at Kimbilio Hospice.
Arriving at Kimbilio Hospice
Today, Thursday, we had the chance to make home visits with some of the Living Room staff, checking in on the status of several clients.
A home visit family
As I am typing this, the power is out and it is POURING rain. We are so happy to be here in this African environment. The scenery is breathtaking and the people are so kind. This is going to be an amazing couple of weeks here in Kipkaren. We hope to blog every few days. Thanks for all of the prayers and support.
Kwaheri (goodbye) for now.
