Kimbilio Hospice Marathon!
For months there was planning and praying for the Kimbilio Hospice Marathon/Team Living Room. We woke up Sunday morning, October 13th, to beautiful weather and were filled with excitement as 144 athletes arrived in the village of Kipkaren to participate. Over the past few weeks, 75 Americans have joined us in local events to raise awareness and funds for the Living Room.
After a grueling 26.2 miles through rugged terrain, the winners crossed the finish line. For the men, Alfred Kipsana Mondih won with a time of 2.16.00, and Agnes Jepkosgei won for the ladies with a time of 2.49.10. We were also incredibly blessed and inspired to have Norma Edge from Southern California participate in the marathon. Upon finishing, she was joyfully received by the Living Room staff with singing and dancing.
The Governor as well as many other government officials, the media, and sponsors came to show their support. Several thousand people from our community also came to cheer for the runners and to receive screening for various types of cancer. Over 300 men and women received screening in the almost completed outpatient clinic.
There is so much work left to be done for Living Room to help reduce the pain and suffering of adults and children living with life-threatening illnesses. We are grateful for all of the prayers and support we have received which enable us to continue loving our patients.
Attached are someĀ inspiring photos from the day.
