50 Reasons to Run, Day 46: Enock
Enock Kipruto
2008 – 2012
Guest at Living Room: September 17 – November 25, 2012
Four year-old Enock Kipruto had spent much of his life in a government hospital with an unknown disease that was viciously eating away the flesh from his face and nose. He arrived to Kimbilio Hospice without a confirmed diagnosis, but it was very apparent that he needed a place where he could be loved and cared for. His appearance was undeniably striking, yet the Living Room became a place of refuge that sweet young Enock so desperately needed. During the two months that we had the privilege of caring for this little boy, the final months of his short life, Enock was very weak and lethargic most of the time, but whenever the guests and staff of the Living Room would sing, Enock always wanted to be a part, and he would sway as if he were dancing with the team. It was both inspirational and heartbreaking to witness. While his loss brought much grief to our hearts and raised many questions that do not have answers this side of heaven, we believe that loving and caring for Enock and providing him with a sense of dignity mattered. We feel grateful that he was able to spend his final days in a place that could look past his grotesque appearance and recognize that He was a child of God – dearly loved and adored by the One who had created him.
Enock is worth running for
