50 Reasons to Run, Day 43: Rose
Rose Tata
Born: 1970
Guest at Living Room: December 10, 2010 – February 25, 2011
In December of 2010, just a few weeks before Christmas, an HIV-positive mother who was suffering also from tuberculosis arrived at the Living Room. Forty year-old Rose’s body was terribly wasted away, and she was very near death. Living Room was in its early stages, and Rose was from a neighboring community. She had been referred to us by an HIV treatment center where we had taken several patients. We knew we had to care for this mother whose future seemed so uncertain. Amidst all of her physical and emotional brokenness, Rose had such a sweet face and a remarkably kind spirit. For two-and-a-half months, we marveled as Rose, with love, care, quality treatment and proper medication, came back to life and eventually, to all of our surprise and delight, became well enough to return home and be with her children. It is a pattern we have seen time and time again; even when the prognosis appears to be poor and all hope seems lost, God is ultimately the author of each of our days. Our responsibility is to love.
Rose is worth running for
