50 Reasons to Run, Day 32: Rael
Rael Chepkosgei Tarus
1960 – 2011
Guest at Living Room: July 19 – December 15, 2011
Like so many of the women who come to spend their final days at the Living Room, Rael arrived to Kimbilio Hospice with a restrictive airway disease which results from having cooked in a confined space over firewood her whole life. By the time we met her, Rael’s breathing was so difficult and her oxygen levels were so low that we decided we must support her with oxygen therapy. The morning after she arrived, she told us that it was the first time she had slept through the night in over two years, and she felt grateful. Soft-spoken and humble in spirit, Rael was at the Living Room for nearly five months before taking her final, labored breath. As this problem affects so many women within our region, we continue to pray for solutions and ideas to not only help those suffering from it but also creative and innovative ways to prevent the same fate for the next generation of women.
Rael is worth running for
