50 Reasons to Run, Day 31: Michele
Michele Chepkorir
Born: 2009
Guest at Living Room: September, 2009 – April, 2010
In September of 2009, a young woman from our community passed away while giving birth at the local health clinic, leaving behind a vulnerable and precious baby – a baby whose father was nowhere to be found and an extended family who felt unable to care for a newborn. As we were still in the process of establishing Living Room, we offered sweet baby Michele all we could: love and care, formula, and the one-room makeshift care center that we had created just a little over a year prior for Flovia and Felix. For nine months we had the privilege of caring for Michele and watching her grow as we prayed about what to do next for this little girl. In April of 2010, our social worker, Daniel Morogo arranged for Michele to be enrolled in a nearby children’s home where she stayed for over two years until she was well enough to transition back into the community and live with her grandparents. Our home-based care team, Tumaini na Afya (Hope and Health) continues to monitor Michele’s progress.
Michele is worth running for
