50 Reasons to Run, Day 17: Simeon
Simeon Ekitala
Born: May 20, 1955
Guest at Living Room: May 20 – June 3, 2011
Simeon came to Living Room in May of 2011, HIV positive and wasting away from a life-threatening form of meningitis. He had left his family in Northern Kenya years ago in search of work in a town near Kipkaren, and as his illness worsened, he was preparing to face his last days alone.
However, Simeon did not die and is no longer alone. While a guest at the Living Room, Simeon received the anti-retroviral medication he so vitally needed, as well as food, shelter and a home and support base that allowed him to feel loved and accepted.
Today Simeon finds meaningful work at the Living Room, tending the garden that helps to feed the current guests.
